Purpose of the consultation top

DG Information Society and Media is launching a public consultation on a “Code for Effective Open Voluntarism: Good design principles for self- and co-regulation and other multistakeholder actions”

In the CSR Communication COM (2011)681, about “A renewed EU strategy 2011-14 for Corporate Social Responsibility,” under the fifth action of the action plan, the Commission has undertaken to seek to codify good practice in various voluntary, self- and co-regulation processes in order to improve the framework for achieving EU policy objectives.

The prime goal of action 5 is to encapsulate, in a very short text, the core propositions that frame effective voluntary multistakeholder action.

As explained in the invitation letter, this consultation has three goals:

  1. Gather comments on the draft Code
  2. Develop a cross-EU and multi-sectoral Network of Excellence, including the sharing of useful reference material and best practices.
  3. Gather knowledge, ideas and opinions about how to ensure that voluntarism receives its appropriate share of attention in the policy-making toolbox.

The consultation is being launched only in electronic formvia the interactive policy-making tool. If you leave the questionnaire for 90 minutes without activity, your countribution will not be saved due to a time-out.  Taking this into account, you are strongly advised to download the PDF file of the questionnaire ( pdf 58 KB) and prepare your contribution beforehand.

When you successfully submit the questionnaire, a confirmation message will appear on your screen and you can print your answers.

Contributions received in reply to the consultation will be handled exclusively by the Commission services in full confidence; the summary of the consultation’s results will be published on the Commission’s website in an anonymous way.

If you are replying on behalf of an organisation, please state your name, address and official title in your reply. Any reply on behalf of an organisation which does not state the interests which it represents will be regarded as an individual reply and not a collective reply.

Result of consultation and next steps top

After careful analysis of all the contributions, the Commission will propose a final draft for the Code and accompanying actions, if deemed appropriate, for the end of 2012 or early 2013. This code will be open for signatures to all stakeholders interested.
